A conversation between Daniela Rosi, Anna Daneri, Bianca Tosatti – hunters and collectors of what some have called “outsider art” – which is, they insisted, a social category, not an artistic one. With this conversation, some very valuable treasures joined the archive of The Inadequate. As an example, the image above belongs to:
Horst Ademeit, Cold rays, 1990-2004, a selection from 10.000 polaroids measuring X rays, laser rays, electomagnetic waves, cosmic dust. And, Leporello, 1990-2004, annotations giving more information about the polaroid series
But some others:
Rino Ferrari – a Brechtian character, a soldier who lost his sanity in the II War, as his doctor called him: “Rino Ferrari, pittore mistico del dolore”. Rino Ferrari was a virtuous draughtsman, who frenetically helped to care for the dying in the hospital where he was institutionalized. However, when he felt near the moment when the dying turn into The Dead, he took his pencil and paper and with a terrible sense of urgency, tried to portrait the moment when the soul left the body. Therefore:
Rino Ferrari, Ritratti di moribondi, 1954-1960, mixed media on paper
Or,
Antonello Stupino, Campanile di Roddino (Cn), 2005, earth worked by geese
A boy of 14 who builds cathedrals with earth ‘worked by geese’, as tall as himself, when asked about why to build such impressive, detailed “campanilés”, he answered, “because it’s beautiful”.
